The Axe is specially made for the hunter and is ideal for the butchery of your catch in the field, as well as felling small trees and limbing branches. The Axe has a rounded ?flay poll? for use when skinning an animal. (An Axe with an ordinary straight poll with sharper corners can easily damage the hide.) The grip of the handle has circular grooves which give a steady grip, even if your hands are wet or sticky. Like all Gransfors Bruk Forest Axes, the head is specially designed to cut across the grain of the wood fibres (in contrast to the Gransfors Bruk Splitting Axes which are specially designed to cut along the grain of the wood fibres).

Axes should be kept in a dry place, but not so dry or warm that the handle risks shrinking in the axe head. Make sure that the axe head and sheath are not wet when you put on the sheath. Oil the axe head before the axe is put away for some time. An un-oiled axe head may rust. We recommend oiling the head with camellia oil.
All axes from Gransfors Bruk come with properly dried handles. Handles need to be maintained. Oil handles for a protective coat against heat and water. Unoiled handles may cause the handle to crack and weaken. We recommend oiling the handle with boiled linseed oil. Frequency depends on conditions. At the very least oil the handle once a year. Please contact us if a replacement handle or sheath is required.
